Kelsi Worrell is taking her international career to the next level, punching her Olympic ticket with a 100m butterfly victory at the US trials.
Worrell, who won gold at the Pan American Games last year in her first international meeting, powered past 2012 Olympic gold medallist Dana Vollmer on the second lap to win in 56.48sec, making her the second-fastest in the world this year behind Sweden’s Sarah Sjostrom.
Vollmer, who took time off after London to have her son Arlen, who is now 15 months old, kept her hopes of a repeat in Rio alive with her runner-up finish in 57.21sec.
