Thursday, 6 April 2017 : The British box office just turned its back on Shia LaBeouf.
His war movie “Man Down” grossed £7 ($8.70) on one ticket during its weekend premiere at the Reel Cinema in Burnley, northwest England, outlets reported Tuesday.
“Poor Shia,” said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at ComScore, to Variety. “That opening could be in the Guinness World Records or something.”
To make matters worse, the movie played in just that one location in the United Kingdom. However, the Hollywood Reporter noted that a simultaneous on-demand release mitigated the theatrical run.
Still, that’s quite a comedown for an actor who has appeared in hits such as “Transformers” and “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.”
“Man Down,” featuring LaBeouf as a traumatized Marine who returns home from Afghanistan and searches for his estranged wife and son, received a 15 percent review score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The indie movie, directed by Dito Montile, made $454,490 stateside in a limited December theatrical run.
Mental Floss noted that LaBeouf has flop company. The Katherine Heigl thriller “Zyzzyx Road” grossed a measly $30 after a one-week run at a Dallas movie theater in 2006.
