PETALING JAYA: The 11-point scoring system proposed by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) will give a distinct advantage to experienced players said Datuk Lee Chong Wei.
Chong Wei said senior players like himself and his arch rival Lin Dan had the ability to control a match and can use the system to their advantage.
BWF had recently urged its affiliates to try out the 11-point system instead of the current 21-point system which was introduced 10 years ago.
Under the new system proposed by BWF, there are two options if players are tied at 10-10, first the winner will have to win by two clear points or the winner will be decided upon reaching 15 points.
The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) had tested the system at the International Junior Under-19 tournament held in Terengganu last week.
A decision on whether the system would be adopted for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, would be made during BWF’s congress in May.
