Friday, 2 June 2017 : PAUL ANDREW has announced a footwear collaboration with actor Ansel Elgort; a collection of trainers to be unveiled at Paris Men’s Fashion Week at the end of June.
The connection between the two was highlighted last year when Elgort presented Andrew with the Designer of the Year award at the Footwear News Achievement Awards.
“Paul wanted me to tell everyone here that everyone gets a free pair of Paul Andrew shoes,” the actor joked as news was revealed by Andrew himself at a launch dinner for the designer’s collaboration with Jo Malone in New York City on Wednesday.
The British-born designer, who was the recipient of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in 2014, previously collaborated with J.Crew as part of his prize package and is amongst the nominees for Accessories Designer of the Year at the 2017 CFDA Awards along with Coach, Irene Neuwirth, Mansur Gavriel and The Row.
Andrew had previously hinted at the collaboration earlier this year. Speaking at his autumn/winter 2017 show in January he told Footwear News: “Sneakers are clearly a driving force in the men’s market at the moment. I do feel that there will be a return to more of a more formal silhouette, so I really want to establish myself in that market.”
As for Elgort, this will be his first foray into fashion. The film industry has been the primary career path for the Divergent actor, although he has also ventured into the music industry in recent years – collaborating with rapper Logic earlier this year, and releasing a number of remixes on his Soundcloud account under the name Ansølo including his debut single, “Home Alone”.
