Tuesday, 6 June 2017 : On the heels of the film’s $103.1 million opening weekend, Entertainment Weekly recently shared Jenkins’ thoughts on a sequel for the heroic Gal Gadot vehicle, taken from an April interview.
“The story will take place in the U.S., which I think is right,” Jenkins told the outlet. “She’s Wonder Woman. She’s got to come to America. It’s time.” The current “Wonder Woman” film is set in WWI-era Europe, so it will be interesting to see what baddies Diana of Themyscira will battle on this side of the Atlantic.
There’s no confirmation of a follow-up to “Wonder Woman” on Warner Bros.’ end, but the critical acclaim and early earnings from the original probably make it a safe bet. Naturally, there’s also no director attached to the project yet, but Jenkins would happily take the job.
“I realized that ‘Wonder Woman 2’ is its own great movie,” she told EW. “I made ‘Wonder Woman.’ Now I want to make ‘Wonder Woman 2.’ It’s a beautiful story to tell, an important time to tell it and with people that I love.”
