KUALA LUMPUR: MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai teamed up with his youngest son, Liow En Xian, and another basketball player, Kuek Tian Yuan, to play against the media team during a friendly match at the MCA 3on3 Basketball Challenge 2016.

The event, held at Wisma MCA yesterday morning, was aimed at promoting basketball among youths and encouraging them to foster unity through sports.

Some 250 teams, including four disabled groups, participated in the tournament.

On the achievement of the Malaysian para-athletes at the Rio Paralympics 2016, Liow said the athletics squad had made the country proud.

The gold medal winners are Mohd Ridzuan Mohd Puzi (T36 100m), Ziyad Zolkefli (F20 shot putt) and Abdul Latif Romly (T20 long jump), while Siti Noor Radiah won a bronze medal in the T20 long jump.

He said that he would be at the KL International Airport to welcome the contingent back from Brazil, together with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Thursday.

Covid-19: Death toll reaches 23,443 with 376 total fatalities reported on Sunday (Sept 19)



PETALING JAYA: Malaysia's Covid-19 death toll has reached 23,443 after the Health Ministry reported 376 fatalities on Sunday (Sept 19).

This is based on the Health Ministry's CovidNow website, which shows the number of newly-reported deaths, including the backlog as well as a separate figure for actual deaths.

The actual number of deaths is dynamic as Covid-19 fatalities take time to confirm and verify.

Of the 376 reported deaths, 148 were recorded in Selangor, followed by Johor (43), Sabah (35), Kelantan (32), Penang (29), Kedah (25), Sarawak (23), Kuala Lumpur (14), Perak (8), Terengganu (7), Pahang (6), Negri Sembilan (4) and Melaka (2).

Of these, 75 fatalities were classified as "brought-in-dead" (BID) cases.
