“Google is setting up its self-driving car unit as its own separate entity called Waymo under the Alphabet umbrella, the company announced today. The name is derived from its mission of finding “a new way forward in mobility.”
Google building a safer driver that is always alert and never distracted. Their fully self-driving technology will handle all the driving so you can go from door to door without taking the wheel. This will deliver the biggest impact on improving road safety and mobility for everyone.
How it works
Their vehicles have sensors and software that are designed to detect pedestrians, cyclists, vehicles, road work and more from a distance of up to two football fields away in all directions. Google sensors and software detect and predict the behavior of all the road users around us. We rely on 2 million miles of real world experience to teach our cars to navigate safely and comfortably through everyday traffic.
Navigating real roads Every day, google self-driving cars drive safely through many complex scenarios on real city streets. Theycan adjust to unexpected changes like closed lanes or respond to complex cues at a railroad crossing. They also taught our vehicles to drive defensively, so they try to stay out of blind spots and nudge away from large vehicles.
