PETALING JAYA: The national Under-21 football team suffered a setback after speedy winger Mohd Farhan Roslan’s groin injury forced him out of next month’s Nations Cup invitational tournament.
The 20-year-old Kedah stalwart suffered the injury during the Super League match against Police at the Darulaman Stadium in Alor Setar last week.
National Under-21 coach Frank Bernhardt has opted not to risk Farhan in the four-nation tournament, which will be held at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Malacca from June 3 and June 5. The tournament features Under-21 teams from Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam.
The German coach is preparing the Malaysian team for next year’s Kuala Lumpur SEA Games.
Assistant coach Aminuddin Hussein said that a total of 33 players have been in training for the Nations Cup and the final 27 players will be named tomorrow.
A disappointed Farhan has vowed to return stronger.
“I’m confident of getting back into the SEA Games squad. I wish my team-mates all the best and … I hope we can win the Nations Cup,” said Farhan.
