Tribute to Olympians at KLIA and KLIA2

Thursday, 11 August 2016

Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (Malaysia Airports) has launched its #MYOlympian Campaign to honour and support Malaysian athletes, particularly the national Olympics contingent.

The airport operator is holding live screenings of the games until Aug 21 at its main terminal buildings at KL International Airport (KLIA) and KLIA2 to keep sports enthusiasts and Malaysians abreast of the latest results at the Olympics Games.

“Many of us do not realise the hard work and sacrifices our athletes go through to qualify for the Olympics. For those who qualify, they represent Malaysia as a nation and, as Malaysians, we should remember them and be proud to cheer them on,” said Malaysia Airports commercial services senior general manager Mohammad Nazli Abdul Aziz.

To demonstrate support for the Malaysian contingent, photo booths, depicting sports in which Malaysian athletes are participating at the Olympics, are strategically placed next to the live screening venues at the main terminal and satellite buildings of KLIA and KLIA2.

Passengers travelling through KLIA and KLIA2 are encouraged to take a photo with the life-sized standees, upload the photos via Instagram and/or Twitter using the hashtag #MYOlympian.

By doing so, participants will win online discount vouchers that can be redeemed at participating retailers at KLIA and KLIA2.

Malaysia Airports is also calling on Malaysians to nominate and pay tribute to the people they think have been an Olympian to them such as their parents, teachers, and boss.

They are encouraged to submit their Olympian nominations to Malaysia Airports using the phrase “#MYOlympian is” together with a 140-character (or less) summary for their nominations.

The best nomination, as deemed by Malaysia Airports, will win a GoPro Hero Session at the end of the campaign period.

Mohammad Nazli said the company wanted to place the Olympics in a broader perspective, rather than limiting the thinking that it was confined to only sporting events.

“We want to highlight the fact that there are people in our lives who are, in fact, Olympians in their own ways. We are providing Malaysians a platform to pay tribute to the daily Olympians in their lives.”
