JOHOR BARU: Travel agencies are cashing in on the Pokemon GO craze, offering private tours to Kuala Lumpur and Malacca.

Daily tours to Pokemon hotspots in these two places, which are going for between RM50 and RM148 per person, are being snapped up.

AD Travel Kluang sales executive Estee Leong said the response was good, especially among younger Pokemon GO players on the hunt for rare characters in other states.

These youngsters have been booking trips for the coming school holidays this month.

“We just started the Pokemon GO tours last weekend and we have already made three trips to Kuala Lumpur,” she said yesterday.

Tours priced at RM148 per person included meals and mineral water throughout the day for up to 10 people in an MPV, said Leong.

“We will make stops at KLCC, Midvalley Megamall and Sunway Pyramid as well as other hotspots such as Bangsar,” she said, adding that the tours were from 9am until 10pm every Friday and Saturday.

Orchid Dynasty Travel and Tour Johor manager Yeo Hock Lai said there was no set itinerary for the tours.

“The prime locations to catch rare Pokemon characters change from time to time. So, we will fix the areas to visit according to what the customers want,” he said.

A trip to Kuala Lumpur for a maximum of 10 people in an MPV would cost about RM600 during the non-peak season, said Yeo, adding that this could go up to RM700 during school holidays.

Atlantic and Pacific Travel general manager Alvin Ho said his company was still in the midst of finalising the itinerary for the tours in Malacca.

“Travelling to KL and back in a day may be tiring for some. So, we are opting for special tours to Malacca at RM50 per person,” he said.
