The Malaysian style industry embraces pink to support breast cancer awareness

In view of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, various brands and companies in the Malaysian style industry has rolled out campaigns to support the cause.

Local designer Alia Bastamam has worked with contemporary artist Dhan Illiani Yusof to release limited edition sweaters and T-shirts. Proceeds go to the National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM).

The artwork featured on the designs is titled “Sincerely, Adik”, with the Malay word adik being an all-encompassing, ageless and endearing term that Malaysians use.

It supports the Children’s Home Of Hope (under the NCSM), which provides free accommodation for child cancer patients – and their caregivers – from outside of Kuala Lumpur while they undergo treatment at the hospital.

Estee Lauder’s breast cancer campaign supports four non-profit organisations: NCSM, Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA), Cancer Research Malaysia and College Of Radiology, Malaysia.

The company’s curated 2021 Pink Ribbon products will help to raise funds. There will also be various virtual workshops available, including a yoga class with actress Atilia Haron and a DIY bag decorating workshop with fashion designer Celest Thoi, among many others.

In honour of Pink October, accessories brand Bonia has partnered with BCWA for a community-driven month-long campaign. It pledges funds in support of breast cancer awareness.

According to their press release, Bonia aims to raise a minimum of RM10,000 for BCWA’s ongoing efforts to support women with breast cancer and to educate the public on general health and breast health issues.

A special capsule collection has been unveiled. This comprises selected pink-hued bags, shoes and accessories from Bonia’s latest collections to classic staples that are loved by many.
