A 13KM stretch of the Teluk Bahang-Balik Pulau road will be closed for the fifth Penang Inter-national Triathlon and Duathlon on Sunday.

Organising chairman Ben Woon said the stretch from the roundabout facing Entopia to the Jalan Sungai Pinang intersection in Balik Pulau would be closed from 7.30am to 11.30am on that day. He said the event would be flagged off at 7.30am from the Teluk Bahang Dam.

A total of 800 people have signed up with about half taking part in the triathlon. For the first leg of the triathlon, the participants will swim 1.5km in the protected bay near Pantai Jubilee in Teluk Bahang.

For the duathlon, the first leg will be a 5.5km run which will be part of a village setting. The triathlon and duathlon will merge for the second leg which comprises a 40km bicycle ride. The final leg will be a 10km run through the Teluk Bahang fishing village and the runners will loop around before finishing at the dam.
