ALOR SETAR: The teacher who was in critical condition after being infected with leptospirosis whilst on a sports activity in Sungai Ketil, Baling last month has died.
Mohd Yusri Yaccob (pic), 42, passed away at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital at 8.05pm on Thursday after being warded since July 31.
Mohd Yusri had earlier sought treatment at a private clinic after coming down sick on July 29.
Two days later his wife, Nuri Yana Omar, 41, sent him to Jitra Hospital before he was transferred to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for suspected heart problem.
His condition worsened with bleeding in the brain and several of his organs broke down and he admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Blood test on Mohd Yusri on Aug 2 confirmed that he had been infected by the ‘rat urine disease’ or leptospirosis.
Mohd Yusri had taken part in water sports at the state level co-curriculum activity from July 17 to 20th at Sungai Baling.
Over 100 students and teachers participated in the event.
Investigations carried out later found that no other participants showed symptoms of the disease.
