KUALA LUMPUR: An elderly man died in a car fire at an apartment complex parking lot here.
Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Muhammad Idzam Jaafar said they recieved a call about the incident at around 10.56am on Tuesday (Sept 21).
He said the Fire and Rescue Department was dispatched to the scene to put out a car fire.
"Investigations revealed the remains of an 82-year-old man in the driver's seat of the vehicle.
"The man suffered burns to at least 70 percent of his body. Checks revealed the vehicle, a Perodua Kancil, was registered to the man," he said in a statement on Tuesday.
He said CCTV footage showed the man got out of his vehicle at around 9.20am and then went back inside it about 15minutes later.

KOTA KINABALU: Fire razed eight wooden houses and one community church in a village in Penampang on Saturday (Sept 18).
Also burned down were three vehicles, however no casualties were recorded from the fire incident which were reported in Kampung Babah Bunduon at 8.48am.
“All structures were 100% destroyed including a temporary church structure built by the villagers there.
“The operation was under control at 9.20am and was ended at 11.06am.
"The team conducted inspections around the area to ensure there are no other risks,” said a state Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson.

GEORGE TOWN: Four individuals who were undergoing home quarantine were forced to flee from their houses in Kampung Jelutong Barat as a fire broke out in the wee hours of Saturday (Sept 18).
It was learnt that a family with a child and a man, who was in his 80s, had tested positive for Covid-19 and were quarantined at their homes.
The family of three ran out of their house and stayed in the back lane to distance themselves from the public while the old man remained in his house until he was found.
The Health Ministry has since brought the families to a quarantine centre.

GEORGE TOWN: Three Kampung Jelutong Barat houses were almost destroyed in a fire in the early hours of Saturday (Sept 18), says the Fire and Rescue Department.
“When the Fire and Rescue team arrived at the scene, three houses were on fire. The estimated overall destruction is 80%,” said the Department.
The Department added that 12 people from two families were affected by the fire.
It added in a statement that no victims were reported, and said that the operation was led by the Jalan Perak fire station, assisted by the Lebuh Pantai and Bagan Jermal fire stations.
It has also since been determined that two of the houses were being lived in while the third was being used to store electrical equipment and wiring.
