Saturday, 30 September 2017 : Viktor Axelsen of Denmark has become the world No. 1 men’s singles shuttler for the first time.
The 23-year-old Axelsen has moved up one rung to the top spot in the ranking list released by Badminton World Federation (BWF) yesterday.
His rise to the top spot comes in the wake of his remarkable performances since winning the world title for the first time in Glasgow, Scotland, last month.
The Dane followed it up by winning the Japan Open on Sunday.
Lee Chong Wei (men’s singles) and Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing (mixed doubles) are the only Malaysians in the top 10 of the world ranking.
The 34-year-old Chong Wei stayed as world No. 7 after reaching the final of the Japan Open on Sunday.
Kian Meng-Pei Jing dropped one rung to No. 10 in the world.
