KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia aims to ratify the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) by the end of this year, says International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali (pic).
"We have given our commitment to complete the ratification process by mid-December of this year," he told Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing (GPS-Bintulu) in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (Sept 21).
Azmin noted that time was needed to complete the process as the government must make amendments to the Patent Act, Trademark Act and Copyright Act for the move.

BEIJING: Six executives of China's heavily indebted Evergrande had redeemed some of the company's investment products in advance earlier this year, the property group said on Saturday.
Between May 1 and Sept. 7, the six executives made early redemptions of 12 investment products, Evergrande said in a statement on its website, without identifying the executives or giving details on the nature of the products.
"Regarding the early redemption of Evergrande wealth investment products by some managers, the group company views the matter seriously," the company said.
Evergrande said it had requested that all the funds redeemed by the six managers in advance be returned within a certain time frame.

JAKARTA: Indonesia may allow foreign tourists to start returning to the popular resort island of Bali and other parts of the country by October after a sharp slide in COVID-19 cases, senior minister Luhut Pandjaitan said on Friday.
The Southeast Asian nation intends to move cautiously to reopen its borders following a devastating second virus wave, driven by the Delta variant.
Luhut, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs, said the addition of confirmed cases of COVID-19 had dropped by 94.5% since a peak in mid-July.
"We are happy today that the reproduction rate is below 1... It is the lowest during the pandemic and is indicating the pandemic is under control," Luhut told a news conference.
