HONG KONG: Elite officers from the police force’s airport security unit were deployed to subdue an intruder, a wild pig, at the restricted area of Hong Kong International Airport on Tuesday afternoon.
At least three officers were witnessed using shields to pin and trap the boar on the floor near the airport’s north apron before conservation authorities arrived.
The incident came to light at about 2.18pm, when officers were alerted by an Airport Authority staff member to the 1.5-metre-long animal, which was wandering along North Perimeter Road, according to police.
Police said the creature was captured before 2.30pm.
The authority’s spokeswoman added that airport operations were not affected and there was no damage caused.
Investigations are ongoing to find out how the pig entered the airport’s restricted area.
According to the authority, the animal would be handed over to the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department.
