Police call in driver of MPV, car after traffic incident footage goes viral

PETALING JAYA: Police here have called two motorists in for questioning after a video of a traffic incident at Bandar Sri Damansara went viral.

The dash-cam footage from one of the vehicles shows a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) slamming its brakes in front of a car while passing through a traffic light junction while it was green, almost causing a collision in the process.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhruddin Abdul Hamid said the district Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department detected the video at 10.28pm on Sunday (Oct 17).

“The video showed a vehicle suddenly applying its brakes at the traffic light junction along Persiaran Perdana, Bandar Sri Damansara. The incident occurred between an MPV and a car,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 19).

He said police have traced the drivers of both vehicles involved.

“The driver of the car has already come forward and given a statement while the driver of the other vehicle would come forward in the near future,” said ACP Mohamad Fakhruddin.

“Initial investigations revealed that the incident occurred at 11.44am on Oct 11,” he added, saying that no accident or injury occurred during the incident.

ACP Mohamad Fakhruddin said the incident is being investigated under Section 48 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for obstruction by a vehicle on road.

He urged all road users to never take actions into their own hands which could endanger themselves, their family members and other road users.
