RIO DE JANEIRO: All Malaysian eyes will be on divers Pandelela Rinong and Cheong Jun Hoong at the Olympics today. The duo will be in action in the women’s 10m platform synchronised and are tipped to deliver a medal. By national coach Yang Zhuliang’s reckoning, his divers stand a better chance of winning a medal here than in the individual events. It will be Pandelela’s first event in Rio while Jun Hoong will be aiming for a medal after she and Nur Dhabitah Sabri came up short in the 3m springboard synchronised on Sunday. A medal on Tuesday will also ease Pandelela’s burden ahead of the 10m platform individual, in which she won bronze in the 2012 London Olympics. The women’s 10m platform synchronised is scheduled for 4pm on Tuesday (3am Wednesday in Malaysia. Also in action on Tuesday will be sailors Khairulnizam Afendy and Nur Shazrin Latif in the men’s and women’s laser radial. Both were ranked 33rd after Monday’s first two races and will have two more races on Tuesday. Weightlifter Hafifi Mansor (men’s 69kg) is the other Malaysian in action on Tuesday with his event scheduled to start at 7pm (6am Wednesday in Malaysia). Meanwhile, Malaysian golfer Gavin Kyle Green will have Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat and Belgian Thomas Pieters for company in Thursday’s first round at the Olympic Course. Danny Chia was drawn with Felipe Aguilar of Chile and Soren Kjeldsen of Denmark.
