Thursday, 28 September 2017 :PSG’s superstars delivered a stunning performance as Bayern Munich suffered a comprehensive 3-0 defeat in their Champions League encounter in Paris.
The Parisians took only 88 seconds to get on the scoreboard as Neymar made a darting run into the box, laying off the ball to his compatriot Dani Alves. The full-back—who has been directly involved in 19 Champions League goals in the last five seasons—nutmegged Sven Ulreich with his finish.
Despite PSG’s early lead, Bayern enjoyed the lion’s share of possession and created plenty of chances in the first half. Javi Martinez came closest with a first-time shot from 25 yards that was tipped over the bar.
The home side’s strength, however, was their incredible pace on the break, led by the rapid movement of Kylian Mbappe. The teenager’s counter just after the 30-minute mark led to the second goal: a wonderful left-footed strike from Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan has now scored in six consecutive Champions League games.
PSG grew more confident in the second half and put the game beyond reach at the hour-mark, when Kylian Mbappe fed Naymer for a tap-in. The 18-year-old enjoyed a sensational evening and deserved his standing ovation as he made way for Angel Di Maria in the closing stages.
The visitors frequently broke into the final third—they earned 17 corners—but will be disappointed with their lack of incisiveness in front of goal.
Carlo Ancelotti’s decision to leave the likes of Franck Ribery, Arjen Robben and Mats Hummels on the bench may also be called into question.
PSG now sit atop Group B having scored eight unanswered goals in their opening two matches. Bayern occupy second place, equal on points with their next opponents Celtic.
