Fernando Alonso in a McLaren posted the quickest time on the first day of testing at Silverstone on Tuesday.
The two-time former Formula One champion, who finished 13th in Sunday’s British Grand Prix, bettered the times of four reserve drivers led by Renault’s Esteban Ocon.
A second day of testing is scheduled for Wednesday.
The F1 circus moves next to Budapest for the Hungarian Grand Prix on July 24 with Nico Rosberg leading his Mercedes teammate and British Grand Prix winner Lewis Hamilton by a single point in the drivers’ championship.
