PETALING JAYA: Aeon Big (M) Sdn Bhd has appointed Masayoshi Masuda as the new managing director (MD), taking over from Mitsuru Nakata, who relinquished his position effective Nov 14.
Masuda comes with over 30 years of experience in the retail industry and was formerly the MD for Japanese department store Maxvalu Nagano. He has been with the Aeon group in various positions since 1983.
According to Aeon Big, Masuda “is the perfect candidate” to lead the company to greater heights due to his impressive retail background and knowledge in the industry.
He will identify the strengths and weaknesses of the business structure and focus on enhancing well-performing stores, while re-evaluating and re-strategising stores that do not meet customers’ needs.
Aeon has grown into a comprehensive group encompassing over 250 companies and business entities in 12 business segments, including retail, financial services, shopping centre development and services.
Aeon Co Ltd acquired the shares of Magnificient Diagraph Sdn Bhd, which operated Carrefour stores in Malaysia on Oct 31, 2012 and changed its name to Aeon Big (M) Sdn Bhd. Today, the company has 23 hypermarkets and two supermarkets under the Aeon Big brand name.
