Kuala Lumpur (KL) head coach Ismail Zakaria said that there was an element of luck in his team’s 1-0 defeat to Super League’s Selangor in their Malaysia Cup Group B opener.
“We conceded in the 88th minute after a goalmouth melee, and frankly luck was on Selangor’s side tonight,” said Ismail to the media after the match.
He also admitted that his new foreign signings did not perform up to mark, but he would like to give them time.
“One of them just arrived a week ago, he still hasn’t acclimatised to the weather, so let’s give them some time, one or two matches to get their bearings,” he asked.
However in general Ismail was still satisfied with his men’s performance in their first match after the long break.
“In general I was satisfied with our performance in the match, after the long break and the fasting month it was not easy to regain the momentum, but my boys tried their best tonight
“I am pleased, and there is chance for us for the following matches,” said the former Selangor player.
However he admitted that ultimately what is more important to the fourth-placed side is their Premier League match against leaders Melaka United this Saturday, whom they trail by two points.
“What is actually more important is our league match against Melaka this Saturday. Not to say that tonight’s match has no bearing, but the incentive is still with the league,” he explained.
