MELAKA: Idris Haron (pic) has denied triggering a commotion at the Klebang Kechil Umno annual general meeting (AGM), which took place in his house compound here on Sunday (Oct 24).

“I was caring for my aged mother when there was noise outside my house at about 10.15am and I only told them to be quiet,” said the Sungai Udang assemblyman.

Idris, the former branch chairman, said members asked him to explain why he defected from the ruling state government on Oct 4.

“I explained to them the reasons even before the meeting started.

“There was only one individual attempting to create a problem and I believe he was an agent provocateur,” he said.

Idris said the commotion only lasted for a little while and the meeting proceeded after the individual left.

Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan had claimed the commotion on Sunday (Oct 24) would not have occurred if Idris had not attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, Klebang Kechil Umno Wanita chief Jamilah Yussof said one individual questioned why the meeting was held at the compound of Idris’ house as he was no longer an Umno member.

“We officially sought permission for the AGM to be held at Idris’ house from the Umno division a few days ago, and there was no opposition at all.

“Furthermore, Idris’s daughter is still a key representative of the branch Puteri wing,” she said, adding that previous meetings were held at the same venue.

Jamilah said the meeting was attended by over 50 members.

The Melaka government collapsed after Idris and three other assemblymen – Datuk Nor Azman Hassan, Datuk Noor Effandi Ahmad and Datuk Norhizam Baktee – withdrew their support for the Barisan Nasional/Perikatan Nasional-led state government on Oct 4.
