HSU SHU CHING : TAIWANES WEIGHTLIFTER PROMOTED TO 1ST PLACE IN LONDON OLMPICS

Taiwanese weightlifter Hsu Shu Ching has officially been promoted from second place in the 2012 London Olympics after the previous gold medalist — Zulfiya Chinshanlo of Kazakhstan — failed a doping test following the games, according to the International Weightlifting Federation.

With the gold medal, Hsu became the first Taiwanese athlete to grab two Olympic gold medals.

In August, she won Taiwan’s only gold medal in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, lifting a total of 212 kilograms in the women’s 53-kg group.

The 25-year-old lifted 100 kg in the snatch and 112 kg in the clean and jerk, beating off challenges from Hidilyn Diaz (silver medalist) of the Philippines, Yoon Jin Hee (bronze) of South Korea and China’s Li Yajun to win the gold.

Chinshanlo did not compete in Rio Olympics after a retesting of samples from the London Games discovered banned substances.
