Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) head coach Mario Gomez is unphased despite their 2-2 draw against PKNS FC in their Malaysia Cup Group Copener.
Despite leading 2-0 until the final 10 minutes of the match, two mistakes by JDT players helped the Red Ants’ come back into the match for the draw, through goals by Gabriel Guerra and Juan Manuel Cobelli.
However Gomez was not troubled by the result, although he acknowledged that it happened because his men started to sit back.
“I think we did very well for 75 minutes. After that we became too relaxed and sat too deep defending. But overall I’m happy with what I’m seeing. We have to focus in our training and start working hard and improve certain things as well as our responsibility. Overall I’m happy but we still need to improve in all aspects,” Gomez was quoted as saying by the Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page.
PKNS head coach E. Elavarasan meanwhile was pleased that his men were able to nick one point at the Tan Sri Hassan Yunos Stadium.
“We are fortunate to get this result, it is not easy to come away with points here. Scoring the first goal when trailing two goals motivated us,” said Elavarasan during the post-match press conference, as quoted by PKNS’ website.
However the posting on the website added that the point was achieved with a high price. Defender P. Gunalan, who had to be taken off in the first half, will be out for two months after he suffered a broken hand in the match.
