Wednesday, 05 July 2017 : So long as it’s done properly and with a sensitive hand, you won’t damage your fingernails by filing them.
The best method is to use nail files differing grades of coarseness. “That way you’ll be able to smooth out any irregularities and seal the nail’s surface,” explains Annett Biedermann from a professional association of podologists in Germany.
“You really need to be careful with the initial filing of the nail,” she says.
Don’t use excessive pressure. “If you file off too much of the surface, you can injure the nail.”
If you don’t take care, a painful fingernail might be the least of your problems. In the worst-case scenarios, the nail can dislodge, fall off or even develop a fungus.
