PETALING JAYA: Help in the form of essential items and post-flood clean-up works are being channelled to flooded areas in Mentakab, Pahang, says Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The MCA president, who visited Mentakab on Wednesday (Dec 29), said thousands of mattresses and pillows have been sent to be distributed to flood victims through the MCA Crisis Relief Squad (CRSM) volunteers, who are also helping with post-flood clean-ups.
“A team of volunteers from the Kuantan Port Authority (LPKtn) led by its deputy chairman Quek Tai Seong, also participated in this relief mission, and together with me visited the flood victims in Kampung Baru Mentakab. Thank you LPKtn volunteers for your support and help.
“I also managed to stop by SMJK Hwa Lian Mentakab which was also affected by the floods,” said Dr Wee, who was also given a briefing by the school’s governing board chairman Datuk Hiang Ah Lee.
Dr Wee said the school was submerged in water up to 10 feet from Dec 20 to Dec 23 which destroyed all furniture and computers including books in the library.
Hiang and SMJK Hwa Lian principal Gan Geok Moi also expressed their appreciation to Wong Tze Shiang who led CRSM and organised with MCA Youth members, CRSM volunteers from all over the country and several Volunteer Fire Brigades from Ayer Hitam, Simpang Renggam, Bukit Kepong and Kulai Besar, Johor to clean the school area for three consecutive days.
“Hopefully with a little contribution, this can help the flood victims and hopefully they continue to be given strength and perseverance in going through difficult times. We are always together,” said Dr Wee.
He added that this year alone, there have been two floods in Mentakab, and the surrounding areas in January and December.
