JOHOR BARU: A total of 102 people from 21 families have been allowed to return home after floodwaters receded in their area, with six temporary relief centres (PPS) closed.

Johor Health and Environment Committee chairman R. Vidyananthan said the number of flood evacuees continued to decline from 3,872 people at 8am to 3,770 people at 4pm on Saturday (Jan 8).

"As of 4pm, the number of flood victims stands at 3,770 people from 1,069 families that are housed at 50 PPS.

"A total of 102 people in Segamat and Tangkak have been allowed to return home after the state Disaster Management Committee deemed the locations safe to return to," he said in a statement here.

He added that the closed PPS in Segamat are Balai Raya Kampung Awat Batu Anam, Sekola

He added that the closed PPS in Segamat are Balai Raya Kampung Awat Batu Anam, Sekolah Agama Mukim Jabi, Surau Kampung Lubuk Lanjut, and Balai Raya Kampung Mensudut Pindah.

The closed PPS in Tangkak are Sekolah Agama Bukit Gambir and SK Sawah Ring.

“The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has also issued a thunderstorm warning at Segamat, Kluang, Pontian, Kulai, and Johor Baru, so I urge members of the public in this district to remain vigilant, ” he added.

Meanwhile, several locations recorded dangerous river level readings, namely Kampung Olak Sepam, Pancor, Liang Batu and Bukit Kepong in Muar; Buloh Kasap in Segamat, and Kampung Labong in Mersing.

Five roads have also been closed in Muar, namely KM1 Jalan Tekam-Pogoh, KM2 Jalan Tekam-Pogoh, J34 Jalan Durian Chondong, KM59 Jalan Muar-Labis, and KM53 Jalan Muar-Labis.

“Several roads were closed at three locations in Tangkak, namely Jalan Durian Chondong, Jalan Parit Cina, and Jalan Penchu,” he said, adding that one road in Kota Tinggi, namely Jalan Felda Bukit Aping, was closed due to a landslide.
