Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Weigl facing three months out after ankle surgery

Friday, 19 May 2017 :  Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl could miss the start of next season after undergoing successful surgery on a broken ankle.

The Germany international, 21, sustained the injury in Dortmund’s clash against Augsburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

Weigl, who has made 27 starts for Dortmund in the league this season, is likely to be out until the middle of August at the earliest.

A statement on the club’s official website read: “The operation was conducted by Dr. Karl-Heinz Bauer at the Klinikum Westfalen hospital in Dortmund-Brackel.

“The doctors believe Weigl will now be out of action for the next three to four months.”

Dortmund will be looking to secure third place in the Bundesliga table with a win in their final game of the season against Werder Bremen on Saturday.
