LANGKAWI: The body of hip-hop dancer Jayden Koi Kian Boon, 21, who was reported missing after a beach outing with friends, has been found washed ashore in Pantai Tengah.
Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) northern region director First Admiral Tan Kok Kwee said the body was found at about 12.45pm yesterday, and has been handed over to the police.
Koi’s parents, his girlfriend and family members were at the beach when his body was found but were too distraught to speak to journalists.
Langkawi MCA division chairman Datuk Chen Liau Wen was also present.
Langkawi Fire & Rescue Department Zone 4 chief Mohd Fadzullah Mohd Noor said the search involved the MMEA, police, Civil Defence Department and divers from the Royal Malaysian Navy.
Koi, from Bandar Puchong Jaya, Selangor, and 16 of his friends arrived in Langkawi on Thursday morning after their college convocation and were scheduled to leave the island today.
Five of them were playing along the beach when Koi and two friends, Tea Wei Jie, 20, and Leong Zhen Yen, 20, were believed to have been swept away by a strong current at about 1.25pm. His friends were rescued by lifeguards.
Koi had led his dance group Red Lycans to emerge champion in the national-level Battleground 2016 dance competition organised by Astro.
The group had planned to take part in Asian Battleground 2016 on Oct 8.
The broadcast TV network issued a condolence message to Jayden’s family yesterday.
“All of us at Astro extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Jayden Koi. RIP Jayden, you will be missed.”
