KUALA LUMPUR: Syria Care Malaysia (Syria Care) has channeled donations from Malaysians amounting to RM2,395,472.60 to Syria Humanitarian Care Mission 3.0 in conjunction with the month of Ramadan this year. According to a Syria Care statement, a total of RM1,416,572.60 was for the ‘Food4Syria’ project which provided food for Syrian refugees in Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan to break their fast.
The project managed by non-governmental organisations (NGOs) involved six regions namely Haiatul Igathah Al Insaniyah Damascus, Khiar for Relief Western Ghoutah, Muasassah Eemarushaam Eastern Ghoutah, Jam’iyyah tawasau Latakia and Jam’iyyah Sham Sharif Homs. Meanwhile a sum of RM600,000 was handed over to NGOs in Syria under ‘Care4Syria’ mission and another RM378,900 worth of food items and milk formula would be sent to Turkey for refugee children. The humanitarian mission led by Syria Care chairman Ustazah Siti Sakinah Meor Omar Baki and eight members of her entourage also visited refugee camps to give the refugees moral support.
