BALIK PULAU: Fresh from opening their first hotel in Penang, the Kuala Lumpur Metro Group are setting their sights on another hotel development in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
Group managing director Datuk Low Tak Fatt said the new hotel will be located near the iconic KLCC area.
He said the hotel will have 440 rooms and have a gross development value of RM550 million.
He said planning for the unique structure was currently on the way and work was scheduled to begin in 2017.
“This will take four years to complete,” he said in a press conference after the opening of the Lexis Suites Hotel at Teluk Kumbar near here.
Also present was Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and Group chairman Datuk Mat Hassan Esa.
The newest hotel in the company’s stable has 222 rooms which are all fitted with their own private pool and steam room and has a GDV of RM205 million.
Other than Penang, the company has three other hotels comprising Lexis PD, Grand Lexis PD and Lexis Hibiscus.
In his opening speech, Lim said the tourism industry was one of the major sources of income for Penang.
He said the latest edition serves as another plus point for the state to position itself as a destination for meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE).
He said the state was also becoming a popular spot for cruises, noting cruise passenger arrivals was the second highest nationwide with 125,802 passengers while Port Klang took the top spot with 209,821 arrivals.
