PUTRAJAYA: More than 20,000 school teachers will be sent for the ‘Teachers: A nation-builder’ programme to strengthen national unity.
Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the three-day programme would emphasise on national importance and not swerve away from the National Philosophy (Rukun Negara), Federal Constitution and the nation’s foundation.
“This programme will involve teachers from all races. This is the beginning and I think we can start the programme after Raya as the facilities in the National Civics Bureau (BTN) are complete,” he told a press conference here today.
He earlier witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the programme between the Education Ministry and BTN where the objective is to increase the patriotism level among educators.
The programme will involve teachers with four to five years of experience.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, who was present, said the new programme is part of BTN’s rebranding.
“We don’t want the perception that BTN is a racist organisation. The programme is emphasising on nation building as well as communication between teachers and students,” she added.
BTN, an agency under the PM’s Department, is tasked with promoting patriotism.
